A57 Snake Pass

Located just to the West of Sheffield the A57 is a popular road with bikers, and it's easy to see why. Located in the Northern section of the Peak District the scenery is breath taking and the road is a peach.

The prefered direction to ride this route is from Glossop into Sheffield. Leaving Glossop the road climbs steadily and has been recently re-surfaced, offering a billiard table smoothness all the way to the pass itself. From the pass the road begins to dip through Hope Woodlands, a potentially slippery section as there is a lot of tree cover, and the road does not get any benefit from morning sunshine due to the hills. The quality if the surface is also at it's poorest here, so special care should be taken as you travel down the hill. Once you reach Ladybower Reservoir the quality of the surface picks up again, all the way into Sheffield.

The road itself is very well known, not just to bikers but also to the police who are very aware of the number of idiots that ride along like morons. As such, don't be surprised if there is a large police presence on the road, with the helicopter keeping an eye on proceedings from above.
