This stretch of tarmac is in danger of becoming the most heavily policed stretch of road in Yorkshire, and with good reason. The undulating, twisting nature of this road has led many people to nickname it "The Yorkshire TT", a title which a small minority of idiots (car drivers and bikers) have taken too much to heart. This isn't the TT, this road has speed limits (60 for the most part, but pressure is being brought to bear to have this reduced to 50).
All of the above aside this is still a lovely road to ride, however if you can't stick to the speed limit, or your bike has an illegal exhaust fitted then stay away! For the rest of us the twists and turns are still enjoyable at legal speeds, and the views as the road squirms it's way through the North York Moors are heavenly.
If you do choose to ride this road then please respect the residents that live along it, slow down to 30 in the villages (some of which have schools), and don't be tempted to ride beyond your abilities. As you join this road from Helmsley (located about 12 miles North of York) there is a sign highlighting the number of casualties on the road over the past few years. Don't let yourself become the next person to add to this count.
