Theory Test

Everyone now has to pass the theory test before they can take any form of motorcycle practical test.

When the theory test was first introduced, full licence holders did not have to take the test, but this has now been changed.

The test is split into two section.

  • Touch screen questions
  • hazard perception video

For the first part of the test, you read the question then touch the screen with the correct answer.

The hazard perception test runs video clips which you watch on a computer monitor. When you see a hazard, you click the mouse button to register that you have recognised it.

Some of the clips will have only one hazard to react to, others may have two.

You should click when you see a hazard, and again when you would start to take action by either:

  • slowing down; or
  • moving position.

The clips are scored with a maximum of 5 points for each hazard, reducing to zero if the hazard was missed or the reaction was too late.

Don't keep clicking when you can't see a hazard or you will get a null score for that clip.
