Advanced Training

Advanced riding has nothing to do with "getting your knee down", or riding as fast as your machine will go in every situation.

It is riding in a way that will get you from A to B safely in the quickest time, allowing for road, traffic and weather conditions. The speed you travel at is governed by these factors, so if it's only safe to go at 20mph, then this is the speed an advanced rider will travel at.

You can tell an advanced rider from an "also ran" because they progress without drawing attention to themselves. There is no harsh braking, aggresive acceleration or sudden change of direction that is likely to get them into trouble.

To achieve a smooth, effortless progression, they ride using "the system of motorcycle control" given in Roadcraft.

An advanced rider looks as far ahead as possible and uses the information to develop a "riding plan". This allows them to make progress when it's safe to do so, but hold back when it's not.

Using advanced riding techniques increases your enjoyment. Your ride will become relaxed, smoother, quicker and above all, safer. You will put less stress on yourself and your machine and use less petrol. You could even save on your insurance!

You may require some additional information regarding Advanced Riding, if so then maybe these frequently asked questions can help.
