CBT or Compulsory Basic Training has to be taken by anyone who wants to ride a motorcycle
on the road and has not passed a bike test.
It's not a test, but a course that will
show you how to ride a bike safely on the road. It's split down into five sections:
A short talk about protective clothing
A look at the bikes and their controls
Bike handling skills on a secure area
A chat about safe riding out on the road
A road ride to check your new found riding skills
Your safety is always our first priority, and everyone learns new skills at different
speeds. Although most candidates complete in one day, sometimes it’s necessary to
do a bit more training to reach CBT standard.
If this happens your instructor will let you know how much more time it’s likely
to take, and book you in to continue your training.
We have to make a charge for this additional training to cover the slot taken up,
but we reduce the cost for additional day’s or part of day’s.
At the end you get a DL196 certificate, this lets you ride a bike unaccompanied on
the road, as long as you keep within the learner regulations.
What do I need?
A driving licence, either a provisional or full car, if it’s a photocard licence you need to bring both the photocard and the paper counterpart. If you have the old paper licence you will have to bring a valid UK passport with you as photo ID.
Warm strong clothing; as a minimum a strong pair of jeans, a jacket and strong boots or shoes. If you have any bike clothing bring it with you.
What do I get?
If you don’t have a bike you can use one of our auto mopeds or geared 125cc bikes. You also have the use of helmet, gloves and hi-viz all instruction and DL196 CBT certificate.
The day lasts around 6 hours, including classroom and riding instruction. If you haven't reached the standard needed to get your CBT we will book you back in to continue training.
How much is it?
£99.00for the first day, any additional days are charged at £75.00
A non-refundable deposit of £25.00, payable at the time you book by either debit or credit card. (If you don’t turn up on the day, we reserve the right to deduct the balance of the CBT from the card)
